Having transformed short stories verbatim to the stage for the past 25 years, Word for Word now wants to extend this singular experience to writers throughout California. We are seeking short stories from all points of view, from California’s rich diversity of writers, published or unpublished.

“Exactly!” They Said… will be accepting submissions by California short story writers from January 17 – March 25, 2019. The festival will take place from October 29 – November 3. Festival activities will include a writers salon hosted by Greg Sarris (Grand Avenue, Watermelon Nights, How A Mountain was Made), and other activities. The Festival will culminate in staged readings of three jury selected short stories, performed in Word for Word’s signature Off the Page style (November 1-3).
